AB 1314 – Gender Identity: parental notification

Parents should never be left out of their child’s education and development and this outrageous policy of allowing secret gender transitions at school must end.

That’s why introduced legislation to protect parents’ rights by requiring schools to inform them if their child begins identifying as a different gender while at school.

Assembly Bill 1314, which I have joint authored with Bill Essayli, requires schools to notify parents within three days of their child using facilities or participating in activities such as sports that do not align with the sex listed on their birth certificate.

This bill comes in the wake of a lawsuit against Chico Unified School District that alleges school officials secretly transitioned an elementary school student. A recent study by University of Texas researchers found that LGBTQ+ young people with supportive parents were significantly less likely to experience depression.
