SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) and Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin) issued the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s inflammatory comments about their call to end the state of emergency and remove his power to govern California by fiat:

“The Governor’s statement today that ending the State of Emergency is equivalent to letting ‘Californians die’ is the same fear mongering that we have come to expect from him. Throughout the country, things are returning to normal. Even the Democratic governor of Colorado trusts his constituents make their own choices about how to protect themselves and their families. If California can host the Super Bowl with 70,000 fans we are no longer living in a State of Emergency. Even Governor Newsom’s own actions have raised questions about his mandates. He would be wise to follow the example of other blue states and relinquish his emergency powers.”
