Newsom is Strangely Silent after Months of Boasting About Jobs Numbers
Normally you can set your watch by Governor Newsom’s press releases bragging about the state’s jobs numbers (although with the highest unemployment rate in the country, that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense).
This month though, he’s strangely silent.
It might be the embarrassment over some really ugly employment data that came out yesterday: according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, hiring plunged by 76,000 jobs in California and layoffs and discharges jumped by 17,000.
“Californians are struggling with high unemployment and skyrocketing inflation, but Gavin Newsom is asleep at the wheel,” said Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City). “It’s time for the governor to focus on the basics and get our economy back on track.”
