AB 1517 would have codified the technical assistance and support provided by Special Education Local Plan Areas (SELPAs) in the Statewide System of Support by specifically requiring SELPAs to be a member of the technical assistance team supporting its member Local Education Agencies (LEAs) when students with disabilities have been identified as a pupil subgroup pursuant to Section 52052.
Including SELPAs as part of the technical assistance team for LEAs when students with disabilities are involved ensures all students, regardless of their abilities, have access to a high quality education. This bill will also increase transparency and accountability by providing a more comprehensive and effective approach to serving California’s students with disabilities.
