GAS TAX VOTE

On Wednesday, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher held a press conference ahead of bringing the bipartisan Problem Solvers’ proposal on the gas tax to a vote.
He was joined by Assemblyman Kevin Kiley (R-Rocklin), Assemblywoman Laurie Davies (R- Laguna Niguel), Assemblyman Steven Choi (R-Irvine), and Assemblyman Thurston Smith (R-Apple Valley), who urged Governor Gavin Newsom and the Legislature to pass AB 2457, which suspends the tax for a year.
Republicans headed directly to the Assembly floor after the press conference and forced a motion to vote on AB 2457, which put Democrats on the defense as they switched their votes back and forth throughout the day, with a handful of them ultimately drafting, signing, and sending a letter to petition the Speaker to bring the bill to a vote.
This marked the third effort by Republicans to force the Assembly to suspend the tax in 2022.
