SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement in response to what some are calling a do-or-die day for California's power grid:   “The fear of blackouts is a direct result of a failed energy policy championed by the Democrat super-majority in Sacramento. They have failed to invest in our grid and passed laws shifting the state’s energy dependance to wind and solar. It’s rich to watch them now scramble to keep the lights on by firing up brand-new natural gas plants and extending the life of California’s only remaining nuclear power plant, which…
Sacramento – Assemblyman James Gallagher’s (R-Yuba City) effort to make PG&E wildfire victims’ settlement payments tax-free cleared the legislature today when the Assembly passed Assembly Bill 1249 with unanimous bipartisan support. AB 1249 will provide financial relief to wildfire victims by exempting them from paying state taxes on settlement payments made out of PG&E’s “Fire Victims Trust”.   Gallagher said, “Victims deserve to receive the maximum amount of compensation possible from PG&E, especially since the trust is underfunded and not able to pay victims their full claims…
SACRAMENTO – Today on the Assembly Chamber floor, Capitol Democrats are expected to force the Legislature to vote on Governor Newsom's climate proposals introduced within the last three days of the Legislative 2022 session. All of these bills were amended outside of the regular committee process and without any input from industry leaders. Despite the latest move to ban all cars by 2035, Democrats want to continue to crush businesses and individuals with more onerous regulations and without any public input. Among the bills in the package:Assembly Bill 2133 adopts new 2030 greenhouse gas…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Capitol Democrats killed a Republican coauthored proposal that would have provided California renters with thousands of dollars in financial relief.  "California has the largest budget surplus in our state’s history. With inflation at a 40-year high, it only makes sense to help renters living paycheck to paycheck. But Capitol Democrats are insisting on doing the opposite. Today, they rejected relief for renters. And next week, they will attempt to jam through last minute proposals that will jack up costs for gas, groceries, electricity, and housing. To say they are out of…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement in advance of Governor Newsom’s afternoon media event where he is expected to celebrate his successes on reducing homelessness:   "I think the Governor's Media Advisory included a typo. California is leading the nation in homelessness, not the other way around,” said Gallagher. “Californians can see with their own eyes the growing homeless camps and filth in their communities. I don’t know who they think they are fooling – there’s not a whole lot for the Governor to celebrate here.” Today at 4:00 pm…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) warned Californians of new last-minute proposals being pushed by Governor Gavin Newsom that are expected to significantly increase the cost of living in California.  “The Governor and his Democrat allies in the Legislature just don’t get it. Inflation is at a 40-year high and yet they continue piling on new laws that make living in California more expensive,” said Gallagher. “If Democrats go along with the Governor on this, understand that your rent, gas and electricity bills will go up even higher.”Today at 1pm,…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement reacting to Governor Newsom's veto of Senate Bill 57, which would have legalized open air drug consumption sites in the cities of Los Angeles, Oakland and San Francisco:  "Providing state subsidized and supervised drug consumption is a sign that Capitol Democrats have given up on governing. This bill should have never made it to the Governor's desk in the first place. I am very grateful to the Governor for being the sense of reason in this case.  "We need to stop enabling criminal acts. Instead, we…
Blasts Newsom’s Last Minute Climate Package SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement in response to California’s statewide Flex Alert issued just days after Governor Gavin Newsom announced a new complex and expensive climate agenda during the final days of the legislative session.   “Energy shortages, flex alerts and blackouts are a direct result of failed Democrat policy in California,” said Gallagher. “But instead of accepting this reality, the Governor and his coalition of fringe activists want to jam through a new set of laws at the…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) announces passage of his bills out of the Assembly Appropriations committee and on to the chamber floor. “I was happy to see the Appropriations Committee approve my bills which help keep the promise to those who have lost everything in these devastating wildfires" said Gallagher. AB 1249  will exempt payments that fire victims receive from the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) Trust Fund from taxable income. AB 1776  adds Resource Conservation Districts to the list of entities that can receive a late penalty payment…
SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued a statement regarding the Governor's announcement of a new Water Supply Strategy. "Another day, another empty promise from the Governor. It’s his administration that is holding up water storage projects we desperately need. If he wants to do something on the drought, he could stop the press conferences and go tell his staff to act. "Ultimately, the Governor didn't announce much at all today. With this current policy, we will continue to see fallow fields and abandoned farms well into the future."
