Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher Releases Statement Regarding Fallen El Monte Police Officers (06/16/2022)

SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) released a statement in response to a shooting that took place in El Monte on Tuesday. Corporal Michael Paredes and Officer Joseph Santana responded to a potential crime-in-progress when they were brazenly attacked by a convicted criminal who was released early on a first-degree burglary charge.

“I want to extend my deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the two El Monte police officers who were killed on duty Tuesday.

“The Legislature can and should be doing more to help protect our communities and police officers from this kind of senseless, preventable crime.

“This is a stark reminder that we need to keep violent individuals off the streets, and guns out of their hands.

“We must strengthen consequences for criminals who use guns to commit crimes, end early release programs, and reject woke District Attorneys who are allowing dangerous criminals to walk free."
