Assembly Republicans Launch “Cost of Living Week”

Democrats stalled. Republicans are taking the lead on real solutions.

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Republicans today launched Cost of Living Week to expose the failed policies driving up prices across California and to demand action that delivers real relief for working families.

Legislative Democrats promised to fix the state’s affordability crisis, then admitted they had no plan. While families paid more and fled the state, they blocked real solutions. Now Assembly Republicans are turning up the pressure and demanding action.

“We don’t need another ‘select committee’ to tell us what most Californians already know,” said Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (East Nicolaus). “Democrats admit that the cost of living is the top threat to our future. So why do they keep pushing policies that raise prices, expand bureaucracy, and hammer working families with higher taxes? Republicans are done waiting. Californians need relief now. If Democrats are serious, they’ll stop blocking solutions and start working with us. Let them explain why they keep standing in the way.”

Assembly Republicans are pushing solutions that include:

  • Lowering gas prices by suspending costly mandates and hidden taxes
  • Making housing more affordable by cutting red tape and streamlining construction
  • Delivering insurance rate relief and restoring a functioning market for homeowners
  • Enacting a middle-class tax cut to help families keep more of what they earn
  • Reducing utility rates by reforming energy policies that punish consumers

Earlier this year, Assembly Republicans introduced a legislative package to reduce costs, but Democrat leadership blocked many of these bills, some without even granting a hearing.

“Assembly Republicans are standing up for working Californians with real solutions, not more excuses,” Gallagher said.
