SACRAMENTO – Following Monday’s Assembly floor session, Legislative Republicans will hold a press conference calling for swift action to ramp up California’s wildfire prevention efforts and stabilize the state’s insurance market.
As wildfires continue to devastate Southern California, it has become apparent that the state must do more to defend communities. State fire prevention efforts have proven inadequate to avert these disasters.
For years, experts have warned about the state of California’s insurance industry. Rates have soared and carriers have left the state, leaving many unable to find coverage on the private market and California’s insurer of last resort, the FAIR Plan, dangerously exposed in fire-prone parts of the state.
California leaders must come together to address these issues as we fight the fires, begin the recovery process and work to prevent similar disasters from happening again.
