LA Times Flags State Lawmaker Connection to Bribery Scandal

SACRAMENTO – A new LA Times article published yesterday details the federal investigation into a bribery scheme involving former Baldwin Park city officials. A former city attorney under investigation for corruption has accused an unnamed state lawmaker from the area of taking up to $200,000 in bribes while on the city council.

While the Department of Justice has not yet named the lawmaker accused of bribery, the description of the official matches that of a sitting Democratic State Senator.

Republican Assemblyman Bill Essayli (Corona) called on Democratic legislative leaders to investigate the allegations and take swift action to restore public trust if the lawmaker in question is found to have broken the law.

Californians should be able to trust their elected officials. Any credible allegations of corruption should be thoroughly investigated. Anything less is unacceptable.
