Gallagher Re-Elected Assembly Republican Leader, Welcomes New Members and Announces Leadership Team

SACRAMENTO – The Assembly Republican Caucus has unanimously re-elected Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) as its Leader for the upcoming legislative session. Gallagher, who has led the caucus since 2022, expressed gratitude for the continued trust of his colleagues and optimism for the challenges and opportunities ahead.

“I am honored by the opportunity to continue leading the Assembly Republicans as we fight to bring down costs, restore public safety and put California back on a sustainable fiscal path,” said Gallagher. “Last session, we won big victories on retail theft, fentanyl and human trafficking. This year Republicans are ready to hit the ground running to keep up that momentum and fight for a better California.”

Gallagher also welcomed six newly elected members, whose victories underscore a renewed commitment to addressing the pressing issues facing California families. These new lawmakers include two Republican pickups of previously Democrat-held seats.

  • Heather Hadwick (Alturas) – District 1
  • David Tangipa (Clovis) – District 8
  • Alexandra Macedo (Tulare) – District 33
  • Jeff Gonzalez (Indio) – District 36
  • Leticia Castillo (Corona) – District 58
  • Carl DeMaio (San Diego) – District 75

“These new Assemblymembers bring fresh perspectives, strong voices, and deep dedication to improving life for their communities,” Gallagher added. “From our veteran Members to our newly elected colleagues, Assembly Republicans have a strong team of fighters ready to take on the challenges facing our state.”

Finally, Gallagher announced Assembly Republicans’ leadership team for the upcoming year, which is comprised of:

  • Floor Leader: Heath Flora (Lodi)

  • Deputy Leader (External Relations): Laurie Davies (Laguna Niguel)
  • Chief Whip: Tri Ta (Westminster)
