SACRAMENTO – Assemblyman James Gallagher (R-Yuba City) applauded California’s request for a Presidential Major Disaster Declaration to assist with the recovery from this summer’s Park Fire.
If granted, the Major Disaster Declaration would unlock access to federal assistance including FEMA Individual Assistance and Hazard Mitigation programs, U.S. Small Business Administration Disaster Loans and U.S. Department of Agriculture Emergency Loans for residents and businesses in Butte and Tehama Counties that were impacted by the fire.
“I’m glad to see the state recognize the challenges facing Butte and Tehama Counties as they work to recover from the Park Fire,” said Gallagher. “Everyone impacted by this fire has shown remarkable resilience, but they can’t do it alone. No more delays – all levels of government need to step up and get these folks the help they’ve been asking for.”
The Park Fire was started on July 24, when a violent sex offender pushed his burning car into a ravine in Chico. The fire exploded in the following days, eventually becoming the 4th largest wildfire in California history, burning 429,603 acres and destroying more than 700 structures.
