Assembly Republicans Condemn Democratic Leadership’s Actions Against Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil

SACRAMENTO — Assembly Republicans today strongly condemned the actions taken by Senate Democratic leadership to strip Sen. Marie Alvarado-Gil of all her committee assignments and take down her official website, leaving her nearly 1 million constituents without representation and access to their elected official.

These retaliatory actions are the latest example of Democrats abusing their power and just one of many reasons Californians are increasingly abandoning the Democrat party,” said Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher. “Punishing a legislator’s constituents because of her party affiliation is unacceptable. The people of her district deserve to have their voices heard and their concerns addressed, regardless of the political affiliation of their representative.”

Assembly Republicans are calling on Senate Democratic leadership to immediately restore Senator Alvarado-Gil’s committee assignments and ensure that her constituents are not disenfranchised by these punitive measures.

The Assembly Republican Caucus remains committed to ensuring that all Californians have access to their representatives and that the democratic process is upheld.
