***MEDIA ADVISORY*** Lawmakers, Parents & Coaches to Hold Press Conference to Protect Youth Football

Parents, not politicians, should decide what sports their children can play.

SACRAMENTO – On Wednesday, January 17 at 11am, state lawmakers will join parents and coaches of youth football players for a press conference to oppose Assembly Bill 734, which would ban youth football in California. Speakers at the press conference will highlight the positive impacts of playing youth football and call for state lawmakers to allow parents to decide which sports are right for their children.

AB 734 passed the Assembly Committee on Arts, Entertainment, Sports and Tourism last week on a party-line vote and is currently eligible to be taken up by the full Assembly. If passed, it would prohibit children under 12 years old from playing tackle football, despite the fact that a number of other sports and activities, including flag football, have a higher risk of injury for young athletes.
