SACRAMENTO – Today, Assembly Republican Leader James Gallagher (Yuba City) issued the following statement in response to Governor Gavin Newsom’s most recent ‘solution’ to California’s growing homeless crisis.

“I don’t have enough fingers to count the number of times Newsom and Capitol Democrats have celebrated their phony victories on homelessness. While they pat themselves on the back, the homeless camps keep growing. Even worse, Californians suffering from severe mental illness and drug abuse are left untreated, living in squalor.

“There is nothing compassionate about Newsom’s status quo homeless agenda of letting people suffer and die on the streets. And nothing in today’s flashy announcement gives me confidence that Capitol Democrats are going to suddenly change their ways.

“But Assembly Republicans are listening and ready to act.

“We have solutions, such as Assembly Bill 2020, that would ensure people suffering from serious mental illness do not continue to deteriorate without the treatment and support they desperately need. If Newsom wants to actually help the homeless crisis, he’ll support our solutions and stop with the do-nothing photo ops.”
